Rutgers Tennis Upends Pittsburgh, 7-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 27, 2010) – The Rutgers tennis team defeated Pittsburgh, 7-0, for its third BIG EAST win of the season Saturday at the Rutgers Tennis Complex. Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) won their 10th match at No. 1 doubles, defeating Elizabeth Adams and Shannon Benic of Pittsburgh in dramatic fashion (8-7 (2)). The RU pair ranks No. 80 in the country.
“This was a convincing 7-0 win over a BIG EAST opponent,” said Rutgers head coach Ben Bucca. “This team is playing well with confidence and we are looking forward to continuing BIG EAST play with UConn on Wednesday.”
At No. 5 singles, Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) won her eighth-straight match, defeating Sabrina Visram, 7-6 (3), 6-0. Zhang moved to a team-best 11-3 at No. 1 singles, upending Pitt’s Adams, 6-0, 6-2.
Holzberg and Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) each earned their ninth win of 2010 with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Rutgers returns to action Wednesday, March 31 at Connecticut. Action starts a 2 p.m.
