
Rutgers Tennis Clashes With Connecticut Wednesday

STORRS, Conn. (March 30, 2010) – The Rutgers tennis team hits the road for a BIG EAST match-up at Connecticut Wednesday, March 31 at 2 p.m. Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) rank 80th in the country and are looking for their fourth-straight win at No. 1 doubles.
Rutgers (9-5, 3-1) swept Pittsburgh Saturday for its third BIG EAST win of the season. Zhang and Holzberg defeated Elizabeth Adams and Shannon Benic in dramatic fashion at the No. 1 spot, 8-7 (2). Zhang defeated Adams at No. 1 singles and Holzberg upended Adela Aprodu for a win in the second spot.
Sophomore Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) has downed eight-straight opponents and is tied for a team-best 11-3 overall record.
Connecticut (4-6, 1-3) fell to Syracuse, 5-2, Sunday. The Huskies secured wins from Abby McKeon at the No. 5 spot and Katie Moritz at No. 6 singles. McKeon came from behind, winning 2-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Senior Kelley LoRusso leads UConn at No. 1 singles, maintaining a 3-6 record this spring.
Leading the Huskies is head coach Glenn Marshall in his 13th season. The UConn grad sits at the helm of both the men’s and women’s programs. Marshall guided the Huskies to their third-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament last season.
