Rutgers Tennis Defeats In-State Rival Seton Hall, 6-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (April 6, 2010) – The Rutgers tennis team extended its winning streak to three straight, including its fifth-consecutive victory over a BIG EAST opponent as it defeated in-state rival Seton Hall 6-1 on Tuesday, April 6. The Scarlet Knights move to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the BIG EAST on the season, while the Pirates fall to 5-9 overall with a 0-4 record in conference action.
Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) posted their sixth win a row as a doubles pair with a victory over Denise Liebschner and Belfin Sunbul 8-5.
They each earned victories in singles as Zhang improved to 12-3 at No. 1 singles with a win over Liebschner (6-0, 6-0). Holzberg defeated Sunbul (6-1, 6-3) at second singles.
Sophomore Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) defeated Courtney Kilarski (6-1, 6-4), sophomore Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) picked up a victory over Michelle Weerasinghe (6-3, 6-2) and senior Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) topped Slavina Kaplanska (6-1, 6-0) to round up the Scarlet Knights wins in singles.
Rutgers also swept doubles with Slatnick and senior Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) defeating Kilarski and Elizabeth Verow 8-4, while Baker and Milchutskey posted a win over Weerasinghe and Kaplanska 8-1.
The Scarlet Knights will continue their schedule against BIG EAST teams when they travel to take on DePaul on Saturday, April 10 at 10 a.m.
