Rutgers Tennis Prepares For DePaul, Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 9, 2010) – The Rutgers tennis team (11-5, 5-1) looks to extend its BIG EAST win streak to six as it takes on Marquette and No. 21 DePaul this Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11 in Milwaukee, Wis. Action begins at 10 a.m. both days at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights upended in-state rival Seton Hall Tuesday, 6-1, in South Orange. RU was led by the play of junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.), who have won six-straight matches as a doubles pair and defeated Denise Liebschner and Belfin Sunbul, 8-5, the last time out.
Sophomore Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) looks for her ninth-straight win, playing at No. 5 or No. 6 singles.
Marquette (11-11, 2-0) has lost its last four matches. Led by six players with double-digit singles win totals, the Golden Eagles are 8-1 at home this season, with their only blemish coming against Wisconsin. Sophomore Gillian Hush, a two-time BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week, has tallied 17 wins in dual play, while the duo of juniors Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz are 16-5 at the No. 1 doubles position.
DePaul (13-3, 2-1) is on a four-match win streak and toppled West Virginia, 6-1, Saturday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club. The Blue Demons are led by the No. 13 doubles pair Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic, who defeated WVU’s Stephanie LaFortune and Monique Burton 8-2 the last time out. Head coach of DePaul is Mark Ardizzone in his 14th season at the helm of the tennis team. The winningest coach in DPU program history, Ardizzone led the squad to a second place finish last season at the BIG EAST Championship.
