Providence, R.I. – The Rutgers tennis team continued its fall schedule over the weekend at the Brown Invitational. The Scarlet Knights totaled 14 wins in competition against Auburn, Boston College, Boston University and host Brown.
Auburn led the teams with 18 victories, while BC tied RU with 14 wins. Brown notched 13 and BU rounded out the squads with five.
“This weekend, we played four teams that were ranked either nationally or regionally last season,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “It proved to us that we belong at this level of play. I was proud of the way the girls competed and hope this work will carry over to next weekend.”
Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) won two of their three doubles matches, including a win over Misia Krasowski and Julie Flanzer of Brown, 8-4.
Junior Maryana Milchutsky (Holmdel, N.J.), sophomore Michelle Green (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and freshman Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) all notched two singles victories over the weekend. Green defeated Marisa Schonfeld of Brown (6-3, 6-4) and Milchutsky downed Amelia Martinez of BU (6-1, 6-0).
The Scarlet Knights return to action Oct. 9-11 at the USTA Invitational in Queens, N.Y.
