PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 7, 2011) – Rutgers University women’s tennis will travel to the grandest stage in tennis in the United States, playing in the USTA Invitational at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center this weekend in Flushing, N.Y. The event will run from Saturday through Monday.
“I would describe the USTA Invitational as the best players in the region playing in the best outdoor tennis facility in the country in the best city in the world,” said head coach Ben Bucca.
This will be the third fall event for the Scarlet Knights. RU hosted NJIT on Sept. 14 and traveled to the flighted Brown Invitational two weeks ago. RU won nine of 12 doubles matches in that event.
“We have been playing well and we had the fortune of having a good tournament two weeks ago at Brown,” said Bucca. “Since then we have had a very energized ten days of practice. I believe that the girls are really ready to go to New York and play their best tennis on the big stage.”
This weekend’s tournament will be flighted once again, with the results being generated from singles and doubles play rather than team competition.
