PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 5, 2012) - The Rutgers women's tennis team will compete in its third event of the fall season, traveling to Flushing, N.Y., to take part in the USTA Invitational. The three-day tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
"It's a great opportunity for the ladies to play against outstanding competition at the site of the U.S. Open, which is arguably the best outdoor tennis facility in the world," said head coach Ben Bucca.
The tournament will be flighted, with results being generated from draws of individual singles and doubles tournaments rather than a team score. Throughout the tournament, results can be found by clicking here.
This will mark the second tournament of the fall for the Scarlet Knights, who also hosted NJIT on Sept. 12 for a scrimmage. Last time out, Rutgers made a strong showing at the Brown Invitational (Sept. 21-23), with three players picking up two or more wins in singles draws and two pairs notching two or more wins in doubles play.
Sophomore Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) led the squad in singles play, downing one competitor from Boston College and two from Binghamton.
Next, Rutgers is scheduled to travel to Princeton, N.J., for a matchup with the Tigers on Oct. 16.
