Rutgers Baseball Participates in Sandy Relief Drive

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 15, 2012) – Members of the Rutgers baseball program spent the evening on Nov. 14 participating in a relief drive to help those in New Jersey who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
News 12 New Jersey partnered with the Salvation Army to encourage viewers to give non-perishable food, baby products, personal hygiene items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, bottled water and monetary donations.
Baseball players and staff lent a hand by unloading cars who had donated items and loading them into trucks to take to those in need. Members of the squad spent three hours at the Ocean County Mall and loaded nine trucks with supplies.
Associate head coach Joe Litterio, assistant athletic director for student-athlete development Shawn Tucker, seniors Rob Corsi (Oceanport, N.J.), Sam Hasty (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Bill Hoermann (Toms River, N.J.), and Steve Zavala (Randolph, N.J.), and freshmen RJ Devish (Beachwood, N.J), Corey Lerche (West Nyack, N.J.) and Matt Tietz (West Milford, N.J.) all participated in the drive.
Through three days of the relief drive, 30 trucks full of items were filled to help the New Jersey victims.
