
Rutgers Tennis Set for Two Road Matches

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 26, 2013) - The Rutgers women's tennis team continues its season with two road matches, starting with BIG EAST foe Villanova in Villanova, Pa., on Wednesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. The Scarlet Knights then travel to New Haven, Conn., to take on Yale on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
RU is coming off a 2-1 spring break trip in Florida and holds a 9-5 record this season, including a 3-1 conference record. Led by 10th-year head coach Benjamin Bucca, Rutgers most recently downed California (Pa.), 7-0 (March 20). The Scarlet Knights have recorded four sweeps this season.
Freshman Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) leads the Scarlet Knights with her 11-3 record, holding a 4-0 mark in league play. As a tandem in doubles contests, junior Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and Li top the squad with an 8-2 record.
Villanova is currently 3-5 on the season and 0-1 in BIG EAST play with a 6-1 loss at Pittsburgh (Feb. 23). The squad most recently lost to Delaware, 7-0, on March 17, and is scheduled to play a match against Fairfield tonight, March 26, before hosting Rutgers tomorrow. Last season, RU swept the Wildcats at the RU Tennis Complex on March 22, 2012. Steve Reiniger is in his 16th-season at the helm of the Wildcats.
Yale, ranked No. 36 in the latest ITA Rankings (March 26), is 10-2 in 2013. The Bulldogs most recently downed Ohio State in Montgomery, Ala., at the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic (March 17). Last season, Rutgers fell to Yale, 6-1. Head coach Danielle Lund McNamara is in her seventh season.
