Rutgers Tennis Sweeps Connecticut

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 5, 2013) - For the third time this season, the Rutgers women's tennis team recorded a sweep, downing UConn, 7-0, in Storrs, Conn., Tuesday. It marked the fourth-straight win for the Scarlet Knights.
Led by 10th-year head coach Benjamin Bucca, RU improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST play. The Huskies dropped to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
Rutgers earned the doubles point as junior Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) and freshman Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) defeated Abby McKeon and Lucy Nutting of UConn, 8-4. The tandem improved to 5-1 when playing together this season.
Freshmen Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas) and Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) sealed the point with an 8-4 victory over Maxene Weinberg and Srna Stosljevic. The No. 3 doubles contest did not finish.
In singles play, Petrini and Li continued their impressive seasons. Petrini improved to 6-2 with a win over Weinberg (6-2, 7-5), while Li moved to a team-best 7-1 as she beat Stosljevic (6-2, 3-6, 6-3). Zein and Kayati each picked up singles victories in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively.
Sophomores Noor Judeh (Potomac, Md.) and Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) completed the sweep, downing the Huskies' Natalie Robson (6-2, 6-4) and Gargiulo (6-2, 6-2), respectively.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action in Morgantown, W. Va., taking on West Virginia on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
