Oct 07 | Baseball
Todd Frazier
Frazier enjoyed his most productive season during his four-year career with the Cincinnati Reds, earning his first All-Star Game nomination. The Toms River, N.J., native played in 157 games as the Reds’ starting third baseman, batting .273 with 29 home runs, 80 RBIs, 163 hits and 20 stolen bases. Frazier led the team in games played (157), plate appearances (597), runs scored (88), hits (163), home runs (29) and walks (52). Frazier’s .273 batting average tied with catcher Devin Mesoraco for the team lead for players who had at least 350-plus plate appearances.
During All-Star weekend, Frazier represented the Reds and the National League in the home run derby, belting nine home runs in the first three rounds to earn a spot in the finals against defending champion Yoenis Cespedes. After a valiant effort, Frazier lost to the then Athletics’ outfielder.
Frazier drew a walk in his only plate appearance of the All-Star Game, but he also received national attention when a picture surfaced of a 12-year-old Frazier with Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter at the 1998 All-Star Game. He had his picture taken with Jeter, which the media used as a testament to Jeter’s longevity.
