PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 9, 2014) - The Rutgers women's tennis team continues fall competition at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Yale University from Friday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 12. The tournament features Brown, Dartmouth, Pittsburgh, William & Mary and host Yale.
Last time out, Rutgers hosted ASA College in a competitive scrimmage. The match helped the Scarlet Knights tune up their skills heading into this weekend's invitational.
The Scarlet Knights will meet the Bears for the second time this season, after competing at the Brown Invitational last month. Rutgers put in a solid performance at the tournament, highlighted with Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas) capturing a third-place finish in doubles play.
Yale and Darthmouth finished the 2013-14 season ranked in the top ten of the International Tennis Association Division I Northeast Region Rankings. The Bulldogs ranked fourth, followed by the Big Green in seventh. The Scarlet Knights were close behind at 10th in the rankings.
Pittsburgh made an appearance in its first ever ACC tournament last season, falling to then-No. 15 Boston College in the opening round. The Panthers are coming off a strong showing at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern. Pitt finished their events 11-12 in singles play and 5-4 in doubles.
William & Mary enter the weekend after hosting the Tribe Invitational. The team won five of its six single matches on the final day of the tournament. Eight players recorded perfect records of 3-0 in singles play.
