Tennis Concludes Action at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Rutgers women's tennis team concluded competition at the Brown Invitational on Sunday in Providence, R.I., with junior Farris Cunningham (Houston, Texas) finishing in second place of her respective draw.
Competing in the Black draw, Cunningham delivered a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Arielle Griffin of UMass in the first round of the bracket. Cunningham then advanced to the finals of the draw after a 7-6, 6-1 win against Iris Lin of Boston University. Cunningham then went on to lose in the championship match, 6-1,6-1, to St. John's Jaide Collins to finish second in the field.
Senior Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) finished third in the Brown draw, delivering a 7-5, 5-7, (10-5) win against St. John's Anna Morozova to secure third place. Li also captured her opening-round match with a 7-5, 7-6 result over Brown's Hannah Camhi.
In doubles play, Li and senior Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas) went 2-1 in the Bear doubles draw. The duo won its opening match, 8-7, against St. John's Olaya Inclan Solis and Natallia Vavulina. After dropping their next match, Li and Zein won again in their consolation match, 8-4, against Stony Brook's Nadia Smergut and Yana Nikolaeva.
Rutgers will return to action Friday, Oct. 9 to Sunday, Oct. 11, when the Scarlet Knights compete in the Bulldog Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
