Tennis Wraps Up Day One of Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- Rutgers tennis enjoyed success during the first day of the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational Friday in Annapolis, Maryland. Five Scarlet Knights captured at least one singles win, while three doubles teams had victories during the first leg of the tournament.
In B Singles, freshman Katherine Muzik fought back for a 4-6, 7-6, (6) win over FDU's Marta Ruscczysnka in the opening round. Muzik also defeated Delaware's Sara Komer, 6-1, 4-6 (3) to advance to the semifinals. Junior Mingxiu Du also made it to the semifinals of the B Singles flight, with wins over George Mason's Sydney Green (6-2, 6-1) and Buffalo's Margarita Kotok (6-7 (4), 6-1 (5).
In C Singles, rookie Jacqueline Cochrane defeated Navy's Rozel Hernandez, 6-1, 5-7 (6) and advanced to the semifinals of her flight with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Seton Hall's Melody Taal.
Other highlights from singles action during Friday's portion of the tournament include a 6-4, 6-4, victory for junior Lee Levy in the opening match, and two victories for senior Farris Cunningham against Navy's Audrey Channell (6-2, 6-3) and Bucknell's Jill Auteri (6-0, 6-2).
RU had two victories in the A Doubles flight. Du paired with junior Chloe Lee for a 6-1 win against Seton Hall, while Muzik and senior Ksenija Tihomirova had a 6-2 win over Bucknell. Cochrane and Cunningham also contributed a win in the B Doubles flight.
Rutgers returns to action tomorrow at 9 a.m. for day two of the Navy Invitational.
