Tennis Drops Close Match with College of Charleston

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (March 6, 2016) - The Rutgers tennis team dropped its close match with the College of Charleston, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.

The Scarlet Knights (4-5, 0-2) swept the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and 3 positions. Junior Ksenija Tihomirova (Riga, Latvia) and sophomore Chloe Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.) defeated Liza Fieldsend and Brooke McAmis , 6-1. Senior Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) and sophomore Lee Levy (Haifa, Israel) also captured a doubles win by the same margin.

In singles play, Lee captured a win in the No. 2 position against Schofield, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas) also won in the No. 4 position against Mara Argyriou. After falling behind in the first set, Zein battled back with a 6-2 victory in the second set, followed by a 6-1 advantage in the third tie breaker.

Four of RU's six singles matches went to a third set in the hard-fought loss.

Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, March 12, when the Scarlet Knights travel to face Big Ten opponent Nebraska.
