SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights are currently 3-1 on their six-game homestand and 6-1 overall at Bainton Field this season. Dating back to last season, RU has won 12 of its last 14 home games. This weekend marks Rutgers' conference bye, which each Big Ten team has during the course of league play due to there being 13 baseball members.

Most recently, three Rutgers pitchers combined to toss a five-hit shutout in a 5-0 Wednesday win over Fordham. Freshman Serafino Brito (Oakland, N.J.) picked up his third win of the year with three hits allowed over five scoreless frames, while junior Christian Campbell (Sayreville, N.J.) followed up with four two-hit innings of relief. Freshman Kevin Romero (Garfield, N.J.) nailed down the final three outs in a perfect ninth. At the plate, fifth-year senior John Jennings (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) returned to the starting lineup and went 3-for-3, with Campbell and junior Tom Marcinczyk (Middlesex, N.J.) both knocking in runs.

That midweek win followed a Big Ten series victory over Indiana for the Scarlet Knights.

Senior R.J. Devish (Beachwood, N.J.) reached base twice more Wednesday to bring his on-base percentage to .533 for the season, which leads the Big Ten and is No. 12 nationally. The leadoff hitter also is first in the league with nine times being hit by pitch, tied for third with 27 runs scored, fifth with 20 walks drawn and seventh with a .391 batting average. Devish, who previously had a 15-game on-base streak earlier this year, has made it safely on in each of the last 11 games. Campbell has also sparked the offensive attack by hitting 9-for-22 (.409) with six RBIs in six games since returning to the lineup last week. In addition, Marcinczyk leads the team with four home runs and 24 RBIs in 2016, while fifth-year senior Chris Suseck (Flemington, N.J.) has driven in 20.

Rutgers continues to pace the Big Ten field and ranks 10th nationally with 57 stolen bases in 64 attempts. Freshman Jawuan Harris (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) is the league leader and No. 5 in the nation at 21, with Devish swiping two more Wednesday to bring his total to 21, which ranks fourth in the conference and No. 59 overall. Marcinczyk is also up to nine in as many tries. The team is averaging 2.04 thefts per game to sit seventh in the country.

Head coach Joe Litterio will stick with the usual starting pitching rotation: senior Howie Brey (Middletown, N.J.), redshirt junior Kyle Driscoll (Toms River, N.J.) and sophomore John O'Reilly (Northvale, N.J.). Brey earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after hurling his fifth career complete game to beat Indiana last Friday. The left-hander permitted just one run in the outing and logged a season-high eight strikeouts. For the season, he is second in the Big Ten with 48.1 innings pitched and tied for sixth with 41 strikeouts. Driscoll also defeated the Hoosiers last time out by working a season-high six innings and surrendering two runs. The right-hander threw 91 pitches and fanned four. Rounding out the rotation, O'Reilly will take the Sunday start is averaging 1.85 groundouts per every out recorded in the air this season.

Out of the bullpen, redshirt junior Max Herrmann (Rutherford, N.J.) leads the staff with three saves, including throwing three scoreless frames last Saturday versus Indiana to preserve a 3-2 victory. Campbell leads the group with 11.0 strikeouts per nine innings, while junior Ryan Fleming (Churchville, Pa.) has not permitted an earned run in his last five appearances. Rutgers is working to a 4.24 ERA as a unit, striking out 202 and walking 112.

NOTABLE
Litterio went 15-1 against Saint Joseph's as a player from 1990-93 … the defense has made just one error in the last four games … Marcinczyk's 24 RBIs are tied for fourth-most in the conference … Brey has not permitted a stolen base in 135.1 innings dating back to 2014, the longest streak of its kind in the nation (no runner has even attempted this season) … he is eighth in school history with 239.1 career innings pitched and tied for eighth with 163 strikeouts … the innings mark is 40th among all active Division I pitchers … Suseck is 24th in the country with four sacrifice flies this season … Rutgers holds a .335 team batting average with 8.7 runs per home game this season … the catchers have combined for just two passed balls … the Scarlet Knights are 9-0 when out-hitting an opponent … the offense has scored 26 runs in both fourth and seventh innings … Campbell is hitting 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position (.625) … Devish has reached base 23-of-44 times leading off an inning (.523).

SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S
A member of the Atlantic 10, the Hawks have won seven of their last 10 games, including an 8-0 shutout of Villanova Wednesday. Before that, SJU lost two-of-three at home in conference play against Davidson. Deon Stafford Jr. leads the offensive attack with a slash line of .418/.508/.806 in 25 games, while also slamming 10 home runs with 24 RBIs. The team is hitting .259 overall with 26 long balls. On the mound, Tim Ponto will get the Friday start and struck out eight with two earned runs permitted in a win last week. The staff has a 4.24 team ERA.

Head coach Fritz Hamburg is in his eighth season leading the program. Click here for more information on Saint Joseph's baseball.

Saint Joseph's represents the third Atlantic 10 opponent Rutgers will face this season. The Scarlet Knights previously won a three-game road series over George Mason in February and beat Fordham Wednesday.

THE SERIES
Rutgers and Saint Joseph's played every year from 1983 to 1995 as members of the Atlantic 10. The Scarlet Knights won 36 of the 46 meetings, but the Hawks took the series, 2-1, in the last encounter in 1995. That set started with two games at RU before the rubber game at SJU.

UP NEXT
The Scarlet Knights continue non-conference play with a midweek home-and-home set against Seton Hall. The next Big Ten series is scheduled for April 15-17 at Ohio State.
