Scarlet Knights Meet Defending NCAA Champions on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - While the cool weather descends on New Jersey, the Rutgers women's basketball team will be looking to keep hot as the Scarlet Knights take their four-game win streak down to the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida for three games this weekend.
THANKSGIVING IN THE SUNSHINE STATE
Rutgers is taking its four-game win streak down to Florida for Thanksgiving weekend as the Scarlet Knights play three games in the Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena.
In the winner-winner, loser-loser tournament bracket, RU opens up with defending national champion South Carolina. The Scarlet Knights and No. 3/2 Gamecocks tipoff Friday at 1:30 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights will then face either St. John's or Western Michigan on game two on Saturday and can face either South Florida, Washington State, Notre Dame or ETSU on Sunday.
Rutgers is 4-0 to open the year for the 15th time in history and first time since the 2014-15 season when the Scarlet Knights reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
By the end of the tournament, RU will have played six of its first seven games on the road.

The Gamecocks enter tournament action having also opened the season at 4-0. Among their wins is a 94-86 win over Big Ten rival Maryland back on Nov. 13.
South Carolina has four players in double figures led by senior forward A'ja Wilson averaging a double-double with 20.8 points and 11.5 rebounds.
Wilson is followed by Redshirt senior guard and Penn State transfer Lindsey Spann at 15.8 points per game, sophomore guard Tyasha Harris at 10.8 points per game and sophomore forward Mikiah Herbert Harrigan at 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.
FAMILIAR FACE ON THE BENCH
Rutgers fans may notice a familiar face on the Gamecock bench. South Carolina assistant coach Jolette Law is in her first season with the program and previously had been an assistant coach under C. Vivian Stringer at Rutgers from 1995-2007. During her 12 years "On The Banks", Law helped RU to a 257-125 record that included nine NCAA Tournament appearances, a NCAA championship game appearance and Big East title in 2007 and a Final Four appearance in 2000.
ABOUT ST. JOHN'S
The Red Storm is 2-0 heading into tournament play with wins over St. Francis Brooklyn and William & Mary.
Five members of the St. John's roster is averaging double figures led by freshman guard Qadashah Hoppie at 18.5 points per game.
Junior guard/forward Akina Wellere checks in at 17.0 points per game contest with sophomore guard Andrayah Adams dropping in 12.5 points per game. Redshirt freshman guard Tiana England is contributing 11.5 points per outing while senior forward Maya Singleton is averaging a double-double at 11.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per contest.
LAST TIME VS. ST. JOHN'S
Rutgers was topped by St. John's 65-39 at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 7, 2017.
Former Scarlet Knight Kandiss Barber led Rutgers with 11 points on the night, with Jordan Wallace and Jazlynd Rollins following with eight and seven points respectively from off the bench.
The Scarlet Knights , who outrebounded the Red Storm 41-36, saw sophomore Desiree Keeling haul in nine boards, while Wallace grabbed a career-high nine.
Akina Wellere paced the Red Storm with a game-high 19 points, including a 6-of-7 performance from beyond the arc.
SJU took control of the game with hot three-point shooting and accuracy from the free throw line. While Khadaizha Sanders opened the scoring seconds into the contest with a 3-pointer for Rutgers, the Red Storm sunk three-straight from long range to push its lead to 11-3.
From there, St. John's went on to lead by as many as 19 by the end of the first quarter.
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN
The Broncos are off to a 2-2 start on the season with all four games on the road. Western Michigan has picked up wins over New Mexico and Loyola-Chicago while falling to New Mexico State and Iowa.
Three Broncos are averaging double figures led by junior forward Breanna Mobley at 11.8 points per game along with a team-leading 9.0 rebounds per game.
Redshirt senior center Marley Hill and redshirt junior forward Jasmyn Walker follow at 11.0 points per game each.
ABOUT USF
The Bulls are 4-0 heading into tournament action with home wins over LSU, Houston Baptist, Arkansas State and Butler.
USF is led by junior guard Kitija Laksa at 21.0 points per game. Senior forward Maria Jespersen and senior wing Laura Ferreira are both averaging double-doubles. Jespersen is adding 17.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while Ferreira is averaging 12.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest.
LAST TIME VS. USF
The Rutgers women's basketball team defeated USF, 62-52, in the WNIT quarterfinals enroute to the 2014 title back on April 2 at the Sun Dome.
Briyona Canty had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, with Rachel Hollivayand Kahleah Copper also netting 2 points in the win.
The first half endured seven ties and three lead changes as RU entered the intermission ahead 30-28.
With the game knotted at 32-32 three minutes into the second half, the Scarlet Knights reeled off an 8-2 run, with six points coming from the hands of Scaife, to take over the lead for good. Scaife capped the run to give RU a 40-34 edge with 12:01 remaining.
The Bulls punched back to within one, scoring five unanswered points to follow. USF's Inga Orekhova hit her first three of the night after going 1-of-14 from the field and 0-of-8 from long range up until that point. She cut the Scarlet Knights lead to 40-39 with 10:24 to go.
Rutgers was up 44-42 with just under nine minutes to play when the Scarlet Knights produced an 8-2 run for its largest lead of the night. Scaife gave RU an eight-point edge with 4:26 left to play off a steal and a fast break for a 52-44 advantage.
USF still threatened to end RU's WNIT run though as the Bulls whittled its deficit down to two with 2:48 remaining. The Bulls went on a 7-1 run, limiting the Scarlet Knights to just a free throw coming from the hands of Canty. Courtney Williams, who lifted the Bulls to the semifinals with a buzzer-beating three against Mississippi, threw the ball up and in from underneath the basket as Rutgers clung to a 53-51 lead.
However, Williams' layup would be the last USF field goal of the night. Rutgers would outscore USF, 9-1, over the final 2:48 for the final margin and a trip to the championship game.
Williams finished the night with 18 points for the Bulls, while Akila McDonald and Orekhova had 10 points apiece in the loss.
ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE
The Cougars are off to a 1-3 start having earned a win at San Francisco with losses on the road to UC Davis, Saint Mary's, as well as a setback to Kentucky at home.
Redshirt sophomore forward Borislava Hristova leads Washington State at 19.8 points per game with junior guard Alexys Swedlund contributing 10.8 points per contest.
ABOUT NOTRE DAME
The No. 6 Fighting Irish have started the season at 3-0 with victories over Mount, Western Kentucky and Oregon State.
Five Notre Dame players are logging double digit scoring led by junior guard Arike Ogunbowale at 19.0 points per game. Sophomore guard Jackie Young adds in 16.3 points per game followed by Nebraska transfer junior forward Jessica Shepard at 14.0 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Freshman center Mikayla Vaughn is dropping in 11. 3 points from off the bench, while junior guard Marina Mabrey is averaging 10.3 points per contest.
LAST TIME VS. NOTRE DAME
The Rutgers women's basketball team last met Notre Dame as Big East conference rivals, falling to the No. 2/3 Fighting Irish, 71-46, in front of a sold out crowd at Purcell Pavilion back on Jan. 13, 2013.
The Rutgers post players got into early foul trouble resulting in seniors Chelsey Lee and Monique Oliver spending a majority of the first half on the bench.
The Scarlet Knights trailed 37-17 at the half.
Second half action started with a 7-0 run by Notre Dame and finished with the Fighting Irish outscoring the Scarlet Knights, 34-29 for the game's final margin. The Irish led by as many as 30, ahead 63-33 with 6:30 remaining.
All five Notre Dame starters registered double figures led by Skylar Diggins with 15 points. Jewell Loyd added 14 points, Natalie Achonwa and Kayla Mc Bride 11 points and Ariel Braker notched 10 points in the win for the Irish.
ABOUT ETSU
The Bucs have kicked off 2017-18 at 4-1 with the lone loss coming at the hands Tennessee. ETSU victories so far have included Cincinnati, Appalachian State, Tennessee Tech and Duquesne.
ETSU is led by senior guard Tianna Tarter at 16.4 points per game followed by freshman guard Erica Haynes-Overton at 14.4 points per game.
MILESTONE NUMBERS TO REMEMBER
Rutgers head coach Stringer has compiled a 981-390 career record in 47 seasons and is 19 wins away from joining Stanford's Tara VanDerveer and former Tennessee head coach Pat Summit with 1,000 career victories in women's basketball.
In 2013, Stringer became just the seventh coach - men's or women's - to reach the 900-win mark.
Stringer's 34 20-win seasons are second-best in women's basketball history. Former Tennessee head coach Pat Summit leads all coaches with 36 20-win seasons.
Stringer is the fourth active winningest Division I coach and sixth all-time in career wins in NCAA women's basketball history.
In the Dec. 3 win over Bucknell last season, the Rutgers women's basketball team played its 1300th game in history since beginning the program in 1974.
RU has gone 907-418 with the Scarlet Knights earning its 900th program victory in the 53-45 win over in-state rival Seton Hall on Dec. 13, 2016.
Other Big Ten programs with 900 or more wins include Penn State, who also reached the milestone during the 2016-17 season, Ohio State and Maryland.
Tyler Scaife is currently eighth on the Rutgers all-time scoring leaders list with 1,684 points. She needs 79 more points to move past Caroline DeRoose (1990-94) to move into seventh place.

HELPING HANDS
After committing 25 turnovers against James Madison in the season opener on Nov. 10, the Scarlet Knights have significantly cut down the number of miscues.
In the following games, Rutgers committed only 12 turnovers at Temple on Nov. 13 night and 13 turnovers on Nov. 16 at Charlotte.
Additionally, Rutgers has handed out 19 assists in each of the last three games. Ten Scarlet Knights recorded at least one helper last Monday's 84-67 win over the Owls led by seven assists from Khadaizha Sanders.
Eight Scarlet Knights registered a helper in last Thursday's 77-54 win over the 49ers led by a career-high five assists by senior guard Jazlynd Rollins.
Nine Rutgers student-athletes also dished out at least one assist with seven registered two or more assists. Ciani Cryor gave the ball out a season-high five times, one shy of her career-high.
Last Thursday's game with the 49ers also saw Rutgers with 20 steals, the most thefts by the Scarlet Knights since recording 22 steals at Penn State on Jan. 10, 2015. Eleven members of the roster were able to register at least one takeaway.
