
United Soccer Coaches Names Murphy First Team All-American

Scarlet Knight picks up second All-America recognition of her career
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Redshirt junior goalkeeper Casey Murphy has been named a First Team All-American, announced by United Soccer Coaches Thursday night.
The honor comes days after Murphy was tabbed a semifinalist for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer. Additionally, Murphy picked up United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Midwest Region accolades this week as well.
The 2017 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten selection led the Big Ten and ranked second in the nation in GAA (0.267), save percentage (.924) and total shutouts (16). Overall, she stopped 73 of 79 opponent shots on goal this season, allowing just six goals in 21 starts.
The Bridgewater, New Jersey, native became Rutgers all-time career shutouts leader this season with 45 total clean sheets across just three years of action. The goalkeeper's career total is a mark that ranks second in Big Ten history and fourth in the NCAA among active career leaders.
Murphy was named a Second Team All-American in 2015 after her first record-breaking performance in net. The 2015 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, Murphy reset Rutgers program records and paced the nation as well. She posted a program-best 19 shutouts, as well as making 80 saves and allowing just 10 goals in 26 matches (2402:23 minutes) played. All while guiding the program to its first ever College Cup appearance.
