
Women's Soccer Battles Nebraska to Scoreless Draw

PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers women's soccer played Nebraska to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights (4-5-4, 3-4-1) earned a point in the Big Ten standings against the Huskers (3-3-8, 1-2-5), extending their unbeaten streak to two matches.
Rutgers held an 11-8 advantage in shots, including an 8-3 margin in the second half. The Scarlet Knights also generated several late scoring opportunities, forcing Nebraska goalkeeper Avery Gillahan to make two saves in the final minute after a dangerous free kick from Lilia Calvert.Ā
Senior goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer made five saves to secure the shutout for RU. Ashley Baran led the offensive effort with a game-high five shots.
The Scarlet Knights came out aggressively, with Baran putting two shots on target in the opening 11 minutes. Nebraska responded with several chances of its own, but Bodmer made three first-half saves to keep the match scoreless heading into the break.
Rutgers increased its offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting Nebraska 8-3 over the final 45 minutes. Audrey Cain and Lilia Calvert each generated opportunities, while Amanda Thornton provided a spark off the bench.
With time winding down, the Scarlet Knights made one final push for the winner. Thornton had an attempt blocked in the 88th minute before Calvert and Thornton each put shots on goal in the 90th minute, but Gillahan turned away both chances to preserve the draw.
