Women's Soccer Downs No. 14 Wisconsin

PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers women's soccer delivered a massive 3-1 win over No. 14 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights (3-4-3, 2-3-0) found the back of the net three times against the Badgers (7-2-2, 3-1-1), who entered Sunday having not allowed a single goal in their first four Big Ten matches.
RU controlled the match from the opening whistle, scoring 10 minutes into the contest and peppering the UW backline with 15 shots, including six on target. As Rutgers showed its composure on a rainy and windy afternoon, Julia Joseph provided the game-winner, coming up from her spot on the backline and curling in a wonder goal from well outside the box in the 60th minute.
Freshman standout Lilia Calvert had another big game, scoring her third goal of the season and adding an assist on Joseph's game-winner.
Less than 10 minutes into the match, the dynamic Scarlet Knight counterattack provided the opening score. Reilly McGlinn made a bombing run up the left side and crossed a ball into the box. Ashley Baran made her run into the box and slid in with her left foot, tucking it under the keeper and into the back of the net.
Wisconsin evened the game when a deflected ball fell right to a Badger player, who fired it home to make it 1-1.
With the score at 1-1 after the first 45 minutes, Rutgers came out of the locker room determined and pushing for the go-ahead goal.
Joseph provided the moment after Calvert settled play following a shot off the post. Joseph curled in a long shot from well outside the box, tucking it into the upper-right corner and giving her team a 2-1 advantage.
The Scarlet Knights buckled down on defense and did not allow the Badgers any quality looks at goal. RU continued to shut down the Wisconsin attack and ultimately put the game away when Calvert scored in the 86th minute.
After Amanda Thornton drew a free kick, Calvert lofted in a long ball from distance that forced the keeper to back up into the net, where the ball got past her and crossed the line for a goal to make it 3-1.
Rutgers has a week off before it returns to action at Iowa, with the match set for 2 p.m. next Sunday in Iowa City.
