Women's Hoops Homestand Continues With Siena on Saturday

Scarlet Knights Welcome Saints With 2 p.m. Tipoff
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's basketball team is back at home on Saturday as they host Siena at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on BTN Plus with Dominick Savino and Patrick Broyle and also air on the Rutgers IMG Radio Network with Danny Breslauer and Mark Peterson calling all the action.
HOMESTAND CONTINUES
The Scarlet Knights opened up an eight-game homestand on Thursday picking up its first ever Big Ten/ACC Challenge win with a 57-53 victory over NC State, a team receiving votes in this week's ESPN Coaches Poll.
Rutgers was paced by Tyler Scaife's 27-point night. The game was not only the redshirt senior guard's fourth 20+ point scoring game of the season and two-point shy of matching her career-high, but also moved Scaife into seventh all-time in scoring at Rutgers.
Although Scaife was the only Scarlet Knight in double figures redshirt junior forward Stasha Carey gave Rutgers nine rebounds and four blocks in the win.
The Scarlet Knights committed a season-low 10 miscues in the winning effort, while 22 Wolfpack turnovers led to 21 points for RU.
RU is playing game two of an eight-game homestand after playing six of its first seven games on the road. Including Thursday night's contest with NC State, RU is playing three games in five days.
The Saints arrive at the RAC at 3-3 on the 2017-18 season having won two-straight. Siena picked up a 72-61 win over Howard last Saturday and earned a 73-70 overtime victory at Colgate on Wednesday night.
Siena is led by senior guard Kollyns Scarbrough who is averaging a near double-double at 17.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Sophomore guard Sabrina Piper is adding in 11.0 points per game while sophomore forward Maddie Simms is logging 10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
MILESTONE NUMBERS TO REMEMBER
Rutgers head coach Stringer has compiled a 983-392 career record in 47 seasons and is 17 wins away from joining Stanford's Tara VanDerveer and former Tennessee head coach Pat Summit with 1,000 career victories in women's basketball.
In 2013, Stringer became just the seventh coach - men's or women's - to reach the 900-win mark.
Stringer's 34 20-win seasons are second-best in women's basketball history. Former Tennessee head coach Pat Summit leads all coaches with 36 20-win seasons.
Stringer is the fourth active winningest Division I coach and sixth all-time in career wins in NCAA women's basketball history.
In the Dec. 3 win over Bucknell last season, the Rutgers women's basketball team played its 1300th game in history since beginning the program in 1974.
RU has gone 909-421 with the Scarlet Knights earning its 900th program victory in the 53-45 win over in-state rival Seton Hall on Dec. 13, 2016.
Other Big Ten programs with 900 or more wins include Penn State, who also reached the milestone during the 2016-17 season, Ohio State and Maryland.
SCAIFE MILESTONE NUMBERS TO REMEMBER
With her 20 points against No. 2/3 and defending national champion South Carolina, Tyler Scaife become the eighth Scarlet Knight in history to score over 1,700 career points.
On Thursday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge against North Carolina State, Scaife's 27 points moved her into seventh all-time in scoring. The Little Rock, Arkansas native now has 1,763 points and needs 18 more to surpass Telicher Austin (1985-89) for sixth place.

HANDLING THE BALL
After committing 25 turnovers against James Madison in the season opener on Nov. 10, the Scarlet Knights have significantly cut down the number of miscues.
In the following games, Rutgers committed only 12 turnovers at Temple on Nov. 13 night and 13 turnovers on Nov. 16 at Charlotte. More recently, the Scarlet Knights had a season-low 10 turnovers against NC State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Conversely, Rutgers opponents have committed 20 or miscues in seven of eight games. Only defending national champion South Carolina has turned the ball over less than 20 times. The No. 3/2 Gamecocks committed 18 turnovers.
