REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Anna-Maria Diederichs carded a 219 (72-72-75) to place third in the 68-player field at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at Rehoboth Beach Country Club. The freshman's performance helped the Scarlet Knights finish fourth with a 900 (292-295-313) total at the 12-team tournament, its final event of the fall season.
"Anna-Maria played well again for us to lead the team and capped off a nice fall season with her third-place finish," said head coach Kari Williams. "We head into our offseason with specific areas for each player to focus on as we look ahead to the spring."
Diederichs was minus one on both par five and par three holes with nine birdies to lead four Scarlet Knights in the top 25. With the showing, she concludes her fall rookie campaign with consecutive top five finishes.
Sunday's final round was played in steady rain with temperatures in the high 50s. The Scarlet Knights were further challenged by a shortened scorecard in the five-play, four-count format, as junior Harriet Allsebrook withdrew in round one.
Senior Carrie-Ann Lee, junior Eun Won Park and sophomore Maeve Rossi all contributed on the par-72, 6,169-yard course. Lee tied for 11th with a 225 (72-74-79), Park tied for 19th with a 227 (72-74-81) and Rossi tied for 25th with a 229 (76-75-78). Lee and Parks both counted 36 pars, while Lee and Rossi each had five birdies.
Freshmen Leigha Devine and Nicole Ewing competed individually. Ewing tied for 38th with a 236 (79-76-81) and Devine tied for 55th with a 245 (84-76-85).
Rutgers, No. 76 in the Golfstat rankings, finished one stroke behind third-place Georgetown and seven strokes behind second place and No. 54-ranked Seton Hall. No. 78 Penn, with the top two individual finishers, won the Invitational by 29 strokes with an even-par 864 (289-280-295).
