Tennis Falters Against Wisconsin
Mar 17 | Women's Tennis
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J.– Rutgers tennis closed out its weekend of Big Ten matches with a hard-fought loss to Wisconsin 6-1.
"Unfortunately, the scores didn't fall the way we wanted," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "I think our mental effort and our physical effort has greatly improved from our last two Big Ten matches. I think that we're getting our opportunities and we have to capitalize on our leads, but I'm proud of the kind of tennis we played today and we're going to keep improving."
DOUBLES PLAY
Wisconsin managed to take an early lead over Rutgers by securing the doubles point. With two courts playing it close and keeping the score tied for the majority of play, the Badgers ultimately came out on top.
SINGLES PLAY
Sophomore Isabelle Da Silva scored the Scarlet Knights lone point of the day. In her first set against Wisconsin's Melissa Pick, Da Silva rallied back from a 5-1 deficit, ending in a tight 7-6 score. Da Silva showed how dominant she is when she defeated Pick 6-1 in their second set.
Junior Jaci Cochrane and freshman Sydney Kaplan kept the crowd on their toes as both of them took their opponents into a third set. Cochrane dictated the flow of her first set against Ava Markham, with not allowing her opponent to win a single game. Kaplan and Anna Makarova showed they were evenly matched in their first two sets both of which ended 6-3.
