Women’s Golf Returns to Lake Oconee
Feb 20 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY – Women's golf travels to the Peach State to play in the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, hosted by Mercer University, Friday through Sunday on the Landing Course. Sophomore Maeve Rossi, junior Eun Won Park and freshman Leigha Devine will compete individually in the 54-hole tournament on the par 72, 6,134-yard course.
The trio is among a 15-team field that features host Mercer, No. 22 Auburn, Albany, Chattanooga, Daytona State, Delaware, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, North Florida, South Alabama, South Dakota State, UNC Ashville, UNC Wilmington, and Wofford.
The Scarlet Knights opened their spring season at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Club Feb. 10-11, placing 10th with a 937 (314-309-314) team total despite challenging conditions throughout the tournament. Rossi, Devine and Park all paced RU in a respective round, with Rossi carding an opening round 76, Devine a second round 75, and Park a final round 76.
Denoted as one of America's Top Courses by Zagat and among the Best Courses You Can Play in Georgia by Golf Magazine, the Landing Course is the original course of Lake Oconee. It features a variety of holes that wind through naturally wooded areas and rolling hills. Originally opened in 1986 as Port Armor Golf Club, the Landing ranked as one of Georgia's best golf courses at its debut, second only to Augusta National.
Last February, Rutgers competed as a team at the Invitational and placed 10th with a 925 (310-305-310) total. The Scarlet Knights carded 167 pars and 16 birdies in cold and wet conditions in what was their spring opener.
After Thursday's practice round, 18 holes will be played each day beginning at 9 a.m. Live scoring is available via birdiefire.com.
