Mar 08 | Women's Golf
PISCATAWAY – Women's golf travels to the Golden State to play in the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Fairfax, Calif. The Scarlet Knights will be working to defend their team title at the 13-team tournament that features eight programs with Golfstat rankings in the top 80.
Sophomore Maeve Rossi, seniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes, freshman Anna-Maria Diederichs, and junior Eun Won Park will comprise the RU scorecard on the par 72, 6,157-yard course.
"The team is excited to get back out to the Meadow Club this week," said head coach Kari Williams. "Our returners have great memories and experience from last year and as a team, we look to come out and compete again with a very talented field. We have had a few weeks to get recharged and refocused and we are ready for the challenge of defending our tournament title in California."
Last March, Rutgers won the 12-team event with a program-record 868 (284-295-289) total. The Scarlet Knights bested No. 26 Pepperdine, No. 32 San Jose State and No. 47 California, among others, to capture their first tournament title since the Hartford Hawks Invitational in April of 2010. Rossi tied for eighth with a 217 (71-74-72), while Lee tied for 29th with a 224 (74-75-75).
Rutgers will be joined in the field by California [58], Colorado State [118], Gonzaga [89], Kansas State [78], Minnesota [106], Northern Arizona [146], Oregon State [31], Pepperdine [39], San Francisco [71], San Jose State [47], Washington [52] and Washington State [65].
Located in Marin County below Mount Tamalpais, Meadow Club is the first course in America designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie. The course utilizes meandering creeks, subtle elevation changes, and broad vistas. The greens and fairways are rye grass.
After Sunday's practice round, 36 holes will be played on Monday, with and additional round on Tuesday. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.
