PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football DB Tre Avery signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans. Avery becomes the fifth Scarlet Knight to join an NFL franchise since the draft, with WR Bo Melton (Seahawks) and RB Isiah Pacheco (Chiefs) being selected and LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams (Chargers) and LB Olakunle Fatukasi (Buccaneers) signing as free agents.
Avery played in 35 games for the Scarlet Knights the past four seasons, recording 92 tackles, 13 pass breakups and four interceptions.
A native of Baltimore, Avery started nine games at cornerback in 2021, recording an interception in the win over Temple with five breakups overall on the season. He earned Third Team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media in 2020 after notching eight passes defended (seven breakups, one interception). Avery started with seven tackles, one for a loss, an interception and a pass breakup in the win at Michigan State, later playing a key role against Purdue All-American Rondale Moore in holding the Boilermakers to 83 yards below their season passing average to pick up a road victory.
Avery becomes the 90th Scarlet Knight overall to sign with an NFL franchise after playing for head coach Greg Schiano.
