PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football TE Johnny Langan is a member of the John Mackey Award watch list, the organization announced Friday. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.
In 2022 as a captain, Langan totaled 31 receptions for 296 yards and a touchdown in recording at least one catch in all 12 games. He added 31 rushes for 139 yards and a score, along with a passing touchdown.
The Wayne, New Jersey, native enters his sixth season of college football with 45 games of experience. A versatile player, he has accounted for 20 career touchdowns (11 rushing, eight passing, one receiving) with 840 rushing yards, 1,043 passing yards and 483 receiving yards. Langan was named Rutgers' MVP for the 2021 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl versus No. 20 Wake Forest after totaling 57 receiving yards on a career-high six receptions, 20 rushing yards and two completions for 21 yards.
A graduate student in the supply chain management program, Langan is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Rutgers opens the season Sunday, Sept. 3 at SHI Stadium against Northwestern (noon, CBS), the first time beginning with a Big Ten opponent at home since joining the conference. The Back to the Birthplace Game is presented by Provident Bank. That is part of three consecutive home games to start the year and seven overall in 2023. Season and individual game tickets are on sale.
