EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Minchae Kim and Yana Gurevich picked up singles victories as the Rutgers women's tennis team (7-2, 0-0 B1G) defeated St. John's (3-3), 4-0, on Friday afternoon at East Brunswick Racquet Club.
"I was really impressed with the effort given by St. John's," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "I was proud of our team for how they performed, and I am looking forward to getting Big Ten play underway next weekend against Purdue."
Doubles
The Scarlet Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after clinching the doubles point. After the Red Storm forfeited on court No. 3, Tara Chilton and Yana Gurevich provided the point-clinching victory at the first lineup spot, 6-1.
Singles
Rutgers held a 2-0 at the start of singles play after SJU forfeited court No. 6.
Kim pushed RU on the brink of clinching the dual with a win at the fourth court. The junior cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 straight-sets win over the Red Storm.
Gurevich then provided the dual clincher on court No. 1. After winning the first set, 6-3, the graduate student battled to win a second-set tiebreaker and claim the victory.
