Feb 14 | Track & Field
BOSTON and FAYETTEVILL, ARK. – Rutgers track and field split its squad with the distance team appearing at the Valentine Invitational in Boston, while the rest of the group traveling to Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational.
Kevin O'Sullivan provided one of the highlights for the weekend as he reclaimed his title in the pole vault, edging the previous mark set by his brother Brian at week prior at the Scarlet Knights Open. Kevin established a new record, clearing a height of 5.65m (18' 6.5") at the Tyson Invitational.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team set a school record for the second time of the season, this time with Sierra Latonnel, Charlee Crawford, Cynthia Boakye and Success Duruzor combining to run the fastest time in Rutgers history. The quartet ran a time of 3:35.49, edging the previous record of 3:36.29 set back in January.
"We had some really strong performances both in Arkansas and Boston," said Bobby Farrell, director of track and field & cross country. "It was a great opportunity at two of the most competitive meets in the country, which is just what we needed for our final preparations for the Big Ten Championships in two weeks."
Donavan Anderson finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 16.03m (52' 7.25"), followed by Joseph Oduro who placed fourth in 15.76m (51' 8.5"), good for third-best on the school's top-10 all-time list.
On the women's side, Tey'ana Ames improved on her personal best in the shot put and finished seventh in the event, recording a throw of 16.09m (52' 9.5") which is second-best on the all-time list. Paige Floriea took seventh in the long jump, posting a distance of 6.19m (20' 3.75"), No. 5 on the top-10 list.
