Anna Vlachou Wins Two Events to Highlight RU at ECAC Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Rutgers swimmer Anna Vlachou had two event victories, as RU had four swimmers compete over the weekend at the ECAC Championships. Anna Vlachou won two different events. She topped the A Final in both the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Butterfly. Rutgers had a fourth place finisher in the longest distance event, Isabela Valle in the 1650 Freestyle, and also had a B finalist in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (Tayla Smith) and 500 Yard Freestyle (Isabela Vale) Rutgers received 64 team points from its four competitors.
On Friday, Rutgers had four competitors in the 50 Free (Tayla Smith, Jillian Ruffner and Anna Vlachou) as well as one in the 500 Free.
Vlachou won the 50 Yard Freestyle event. She swam a 22.78 in the 50 Free prelims to qualify for the A Final and then won the A Final with a 22.77 in the night session.
Isabela Valle qualified for the B Final in the 500 Free. She swam a 5:04.67 in the finals to finish fourth in the B final and 12th overall.
On Saturday, RU had Anna Vlachou and Jillian Ruffner in the 100 Fly, Isabela Valle in the 200 Free and Tayla Smith in the 100 Breast.
Vlachou topped the A final in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.29, doing so after also touching the wall first in preliminaries in 52.48.
Tayla Smith made the B final in the 100 Breast with a 1:07.99 in prelims, then swimming a 1:06.96 in the finals to place fifth in the B finals and 13th overall.
On Sunday, Rutgers had Tayla Smith and Jillian Ruffner in the 100 freestyle and Isabella Valle in the 1650 Free. Isbella Valle placed fourth overall in the 1650 Free, swimming a 17:39.92 in the event.
On Friday, Rutgers had four competitors in the 50 Free (Tayla Smith, Jillian Ruffner and Anna Vlachou) as well as one in the 500 Free.
