| THE RUNDOWN |
- Rutgers' first at-bat resulted in two runs on three hits and a lead the Scarlet Knights would never lose. Sam Rohwer led off with a single and put up the afternoon's first run on Baileigh Burtis' double to center.
- Two batters later, Burtis made it 2-0 coming home a fielder's choice from Sam Delhoyo.
- The Scarlet Knights achieved a 5-0 lead after two innings in the book. What appeared to be a routine fly out in the outfield to retire the side with the bases loaded, Burtis' fly ball to left popped out of the Spartan's glove and allowed a trio of runs to score.
- Michigan State got on the board in the third. The Spartans loaded the bases for Natalia Kenyatta to score on a ground out to second from Britain Beshears.
- The Spartans added another run in the fourth. A sac bunt moved Kirsten Caravaca over to third where she was able to plate on a ground out to short from Payton Conroy.
- RU got the two runs back in the fifth with an Addie Osborne home run to right and RBI coming from Sam Rohwer up the middle scoring Eva Garofalo.
- A Michigan State home run narrowed the gap in the seventh on a two-run home run to left from Sophia Grillo.
