
Samantha Delhoyo Walk Off Completes Victory Over LIU

Scarlet Knights Overcome Nine-Run Deficit En Route to 13-12 Win
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Samantha Delhoyo walked it off as the Rutgers softball team fought back from a nine-run deficit to take a 13-12 victory over LIU on Tuesday night at the RU Softball Complex.
The Scarlet Knights fell behind 9-0 after an inning and a half, but came back to outscore the Sharks 11-1 to take an 11-10 edge into the seventh, including a grand slam from Riley Hwang and a two-run home run from Addie Osborne to tie the Rutgers season home run record at 54.
LIU took back the lead in the top of the seventh with a two-out, two-run home run.
Down 12-11, a Baileigh Burtis sacrifice fly tied the ball game up, while Delhoyo followed with a single through the right side to score Mia Mitchell for the game-winning run with two outs.
The victory evened RU's record at 21-21 as the Scarlet Knights' homestand continues this weekend with Big Ten action against Purdue.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Sophomore Riley Hwang belted her third grand slam of the year and RU's sixth of the season. It was her seventh home run of the year.
- Classmate Addie Osborne went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, including her tenth home run of the year.
- Sophomore Samantha Delhoyo gave RU its fifth walk-off win of the year as she batted 3-for-5 with the game-winning RBI and pair of runs scored.
- Senior Siera Hoekstra batted 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and pair of runs.
- Junior Sam Rohwer, sophomore Bailey Burtis and freshman Etta Garofalo also pushed across runs in the comeback.
- Freshman Marley Caldwell picked up her third victory of the year. She tossed 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, gave up three walks, and struck out a trio of Sharks.

- LIU took a 2-0 lead to start off the game on a pair of runs and two Scarlet Knight miscues and proceeded to plate seven runs in the second from four hits and an error for a 9-0 edge after one and half innings in the books.
- The Rutgers comeback started in the bottom of the second with five runs as the bases were loaded for Sam Rohwer to collect an RBI after getting hit by a pitch and Riley Hwang going long for the bases-clearing home run. Hwang's grand slam saw RU trail 9-5.
- The Sharks managed one run in the third as J Lincoln was able to push across a run on a single up the middle.
- The Scarlet Knights kept scoring though. In the third, Addie Osborne went deep to left for a two-run blast and in the fourth, Siera Hoekstra produced an RBI triple with Etta Garofalo adding a sac fly for RU to trail by one, 10-9.
- It was all aboard in the sixth as an Addie Osborne single scored Jayla Fuller to tie the ball game and Hoekstra followed with an RBI single to right to take the lead, 11-10.
- LIU reclaimed the lead in the seventh as with two outs, J Rodriguez went over the wall in left for a 12-11 edge.
- Sam Rohwer kicked off the bottom half with a walk. Hailey Stripling arrived on the bases to pinch run and advanced on Hwang's sac bunt and a Mia Mitchell single to left-center. After Mitchell put herself into scoring position with a steal, Burtis recorded a sac fly to left to score Stripling to tie the game for a second time. Delhoyo followed for the walk-off base hit with the chopper thru the infield and into right field.
