PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball broke the team season home run record in Friday night's series opener against Purdue at the RU Softball Complex.
The Boilermakers, however, took game one, 12-2, in five innings.
Sophomore Addie Osborne gave RU its 55th home run of the season with her 11th home run of the year and the Scarlet Knights continued to add to the record as classmate Jayla Fuller collected her first career home run and became the 16th Scarlet Knight to go yard in 2026.
The loss dropped Rutgers to 22-23 overall and 5-14 in the Big Ten.

Purdue 12, Rutgers 2 (5)
| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- The Scarlet Knight scoring came from solo shots by Addie Osborne and Jayla Fuller in the second inning. Osborne's long ball bested the Rutgers record of 54 set by the 2019 team in head coach Kristen Butler's first season.
- Junior Brooke Shifflett got the start and fell to 6-8 on the year. Freshman Marley Caldwell and junior Kassandra Gewecke also saw time in relief.
| THE RUNDOWN |
- The Boilermakers struck first in their first trip to the plate with three runs on four hits. After Khloe Banks infield single, Haley Painter deposited the ball over the center field wall to put the visitors up 2-0. Anna Moore followed with another Purdue infield single and would score on a single up the middle from Delaney Reefe.
- Two home runs helped put RU on the board in the bottom of the second and eclipse the season school record. Leading off, Addie Osborne broke the former record of 54 set by the 2019 squad with her blast to center and three batters later, Jayla Fuller added on with another solo shot as the Scarlet Knights trailed by a run, down 3-2.
