
Softball Rallies In Both Doubleheader Setbacks With Purdue

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers softball battled in both contests with Purdue on Saturday at the RU Softball Complex, but the Boilermakers managed to hang on to sweep the day.
The Scarlet Knights were down 9-0 in the first inning of game one, but fought back to plate three runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded with the go-ahead run at first before falling 13-11.
In game two, an Addie Osborne home run knotted the score at 2-2 in the fifth. While the Boilermakers added a pair of runs in the seventh, a Sam Rohwer home run brought RU within a run in the bottom half. The Scarlet Knights had the go-ahead run at the plate before Purdue prevailed for the 4-3 victory.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Senior Mia Mitchell was 2-for-5 with two-run home run, her sixth of the year.
- Sophomore Riley Hwang was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
- Sophomore Addie Osborne added a pair of RBIs.
- Junior Sam Rohwer collected an RBI double to start off a seventh-inning rally.
- Sophomore Kelsey Hoesktra fell to 7-6 while junior Brooke Shifflett threw seven innings with five earned runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

- Purdue went up 9-0 during its first trip to the plate to open the day behind five hits and two hit by pitches with the bases loaded.
- Rutgers began to chip away in the second with a pair of runs on a bases-loaded walk from Siera Hoekstra and sac fly from Jayla Fuller.
- Down 11-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Scarlet Knights chipped away some more. RU loaded the bases yet again as Riley Hwang got the RBI after getting hit at the plate and an RBI single up the middle from the bat of Addie Osborne.
- Both squads traded runs in the fifth. The Boilermakers' K Franks collected a sac fly while Hailey Stripling pinch hit for an RBI triple.
- Purdue added on in the top of the sixth with an RBI double from A Moore.
- The Scarlet Knights trailed 13-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth and continued to fight back. Mia Mitchell smacked a two-run shot to left as RU entered the seventh down, 13-8.
- In the seventh, Jayla Fuller led off with a single and scored on a double to left center from Sam Rohwer. Hwang followed with a single to short while a throwing miscue advanced the Scarlet Knights into scoring positions. Baileigh Burtis' single to right scored a run while the bobble in the outfield allowed another to plate for the Scarlet Knights. The once nine-run Boilermaker advantage was reduced to two with one out. The inning continued with a Samantha Delhoyo single and Charleigh Schuettler walking to put the go-ahead run at first with two outs. Purdue, however, was able to escape without further damage for the final 13-11 margin.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Junior Sam Rohwer along with sophomore Riley Hwang and Addie Osborne all captured solo home runs to score for Rutgers. Rohwer posted her team-leading 13th of the season, Osborne notched her 12th of the year and Hwang added her eighth.
- Freshman Charleigh Schuettler went 2-for-2.
- Freshman Marley Caldwell suffered her first loss of the season going 6.0 innings with three earned runs on five hits with a season-high eight strikeouts.

- The Boilermakers got onto the board in the top of the third with an RBI double by H Painter.
- Rutgers also got onto the board in the third on Riley Hwang's solo home run to trail, 2-1.
- Addie Osborne went yard in the fifth to knot the score at 3-3.
- Purdue regained the lead in the top of the seventh. With a pair of Boilermakers in scoring position, K Banks put her squad back on top with an RBI single thru the left side while getting caught trying to take an extra base. H Painter followed with a base hit thru the right side to put Purdue up, 4-2.
- Sam Rohwer led off the bottom of the seventh, taking her 2-0 count down the right field line and over the wall. Two batters later, Addie Osborne walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with one out before the Scarlet Knight comeback was dashed with a double play to close out the game.
