Jun 09 | Women's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Standout rookie Kate Theofield was named to ILWomen's final Impact Freshman Rankings, released Tuesday. Theofield checked in at No. 10 on the list to close out her first collegiate season with Rutgers women's lacrosse.
Theofield burst onto the scene this past spring, producing 64 points on 45 goals and 19 assists in 20 appearances for the Scarlet Knights. Her 64 points and 45 goals were the most for a freshman at Rutgers during the Big Ten era, as the Smithtown, New York, native was one of just five individuals to earn unanimous All-Big Ten Freshmen accolades.
A two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week, Theofield tied for fourth in the country amongst freshman with 45 goals. She produced three or more points 11 times, while netting three or more goals in seven games during the 2026 campaign. Theofield tallied a career-high seven points in three different games and combined for five points in RU's two NCAA Tournament games to close out the season.
Navigating one of the toughest schedules in the country, the Scarlet Knights closed the 2026 campaign with their most overall wins (11) and Big Ten wins (4) since 2022. The campaign was capped with the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Melissa Lehman, where RU delivered a 12-11 win over No. 17 Princeton in the opening round of the championships.
