Tennis Opens Fall Slate At Bulldog Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. ā Rutgers tennis closed out the first day of the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18. The Scarlet Knights played their first match of the fall season, taking on host Yale.

RU returned eight players from a year ago and introduced a pair of newcomers this fall. The nine-member group made the trip to Connecticut for the weekend invitational, while Zuzanna Frankowska traveled to Cary, North Carolina for ITA All-Americans which will run from September 18-26.

The Scarlet Knights fielded four doubles pairs with Cindy Zhou and Miranda Case earning a 7-5 win in their matchup against Angela Chen and Rachel Lee.

In singles action, freshman Tina Chen defeated Katherine Liu in three sets. Chen dropped the first set but earned a decisive win in the second, taking it 6-0 to force the final set. Making her collegiate debut, Chen claimed the final set 10-7 to clinch the match and give the Scarlet Knights a singles win.

Rutgers will return to action for day two against Brown at 1 p.m. on Saturday and close out the weekend against Boston University on Sunday at 9 a.m.
