Lauren Iaccio Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Iaccio is second Rutgers Field Hockey weekly award winner this season
PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers field hockey freshman back Lauren Iaccio was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced.
The Mullica Hills, N.J. native keyed RU's defense in two wins on the road over the weekend. The Scarlet Knights swept a road trip to Albany and Colgate, outscoring their foes by an average margin of 3.5 goals per game.
A product of Camden Catholic, Iaccio scored the key initial goal in RU's win Sunday at Colgate. Just twelve minutes into the contest, RU sent the ball to Iaccio on a penalty corner, and she blasted a shot home for a lead that the visitors would never relinquish.
A true freshman, Iaccio has been a starter at back in all eight games this season. The goal was her second of the season, also tallying against UConn.Ā She is the fourth Scarlet Knight to win Big Ten Freshman of the Week across the past two seasons. The first this season, she joins Martha Goodridge, Emily Nicholls and Olivia de Zwaan who were named Big Ten Freshmen of the Week last season.
Iaccio is the second member of Rutgers field hockey to be awarded a Big Ten weekly award this season. Previously, Olivia Fraticelli was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week after the initial weekend of the season, when she scored four goals in the first two games of the season (coming against Monmouth and Wagner).
Rutgers is back in action next on Friday. The Scarlet Knights open Big Ten Conference play with a nationally televised contest against a top-5 foe. RU plays at Maryland on Friday, a 4 pm game on Big Ten Network.
