PISCATAWAY, N.J. ā Rutgers field hockey is back in action this weekend with a pair of road games. The Scarlet Knights will make a three-hour drive north to face the University of Albany first on Friday (1 pm) prior to meeting Colgate on Sunday at noon. Both games will be live streamed, Friday on AmericanEast.com and Sunday on ESPN+.
About Rutgers
Rutgers comes into the weekend with a 2-4 record, having played five ranked teams in their first six game, including four top-10 foes. The Scarlet Knights have a ranked win on their ledger this season, having taken down No. 12 Syracuse in a penalty shootout during the Big Ten / ACC Challenge.
Two of the past three games for RU have traveled into a penalty shootout, each one with RU coming through with an equalizer in the fourth quarter to extend the game. Against Syracuse, Olivia Fraticelli tallied with just under five minutes to play in the fourth to even the game at 1-1, keeping the game alive for RU to eventually win a shootout by a 4-1 margin. Last time out, RU played a back-and-forth thriller against No. 10 UConn. Again there was under five minutes to go in the final quarter, this time under four minutes to play when Anna Cogdell came through with the tying goal. That game went into overtime at 3-3, and again nothing would come across the scoresheet in the extra frame. This time, it was the visiting team taking the shootout, with the Huskies outscoring RU 3-1 in the shootout.
Rutgers' offense is lead in scoring with Olivia Fraticelli, who has five goals and a Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week honor to her ledger this season. Laura Loycke and Anna Cogdell each join her in multiple goal scoring. Rutgers has used eight players as starters in all six games: Fraticelli and fellow forwards Sophie Kuiper and Talia Schenck, backs Eden Doucelin and Lauren Iaccio, midfielders Martha Goodridge and Emma Uprichard, and goalkeeper Emily Nicholls. In between the pipes, Nicholls has set a season-high in saves in back-to-back games, with eight against Princeton and nine against UConn. With 31 saves on the year, she leads the Big Ten in saves per game (5.17).

Albany enters the matchup with a 3-2 record. The Great Danes started 3-0 with wins over Wagner (4-1), Boston College (4-3) and Colgate (4-2). After scoring 12 goals in their first three games, Albany then was held to one goal in each of the next two games, falling to No. 19 Yale (9-1) and Columbia (2-1 in overtime). Quintry Reumer leads the team with four goals while Mathilda Prada has three scores. Jette Kurz and Mara Kuskes are both top-10 nationally in assists per game.
Albany has a winning record in the past five consecutive seasons. Last year, they went 11-6 overall and were third in the America East. This season, they were picked to finish first in the conference, with Jette Kurz, Pilar Lorenzini and goalkeeper Merle Vaandrager named preseason All-Conference. Andy Sykes has been the head coach at Albany since 2004, with seven NCAA appearances.
Albany leads the all-time series, 3-2. This is the first meeting between the schools in 13 years, last playing in 2013. RU and Albany played all five matchups between 2005 and 2013. The 2012 meeting, a 3-2 home win for RU over No. 19 Albany, was the first ever game as RU's head coach for Meredith Civico, behind goals from Lisa Patrone, Danielle Freshnock and Alyssa Bull, along with nine saves from Sarah Stuby.

This will be the first lifetime meeting for Rutgers with Colgate. Colgate enters the game with a 3-2 record. They boast wins over Rider, New Haven, and mutual opponent La Salle (penalty shootout), with losses to Albany and Lock Haven. They also have a game Friday before the matchup with RU that they will host at Tyler's Field against Patriot League foe Lafayette.
Morgan Willis is seventh nationally with 1.2 goals per game and 10th nationally with 2.8 points per game. Willis, a preseason All-League section, had 10 goals last season and has 14 goals in 42 career games as a Raider.
Last season, Colgate was 4-13 overall (for the second straight season) and were 0-6 in league play. They are in their first season under new head coach Gareth Terrett, who assumed the helm in April following five seasons assisting at Cornell.
Colgate averages 12.6 penalty corners per game, most in the nation. Colgate has 63 penalty corners, one of just two teams this year with more than 51 penalty corners.
