Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Mary Fossum Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Rutgers women's golf finished fourth on Monday at the rain-shortened Mary Fossum Invitational. Senior Emily James (eighth) and junior Judy Amano (10th) both carded top-10 results to help the Scarlet Knights to their best team finish of the fall at Forest Akers Golf Club.
With rain present throughout the day on Sunday, play was suspended midway through the first round and resumed later that afternoon. As a result, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes.
After leading the 81-player field courtesy of her opening-round 1-under-par 71 on Sunday, James tied for eighth for her sixth career top-10 finish. Amano jumped 17 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 10th, while redshirt senior Grace Lu and junior Joline Truong tied for 17th to give RU four scorers within the top 20.
Rutgers tied for fourth with Bowling Green in the 15-team field with a 33-over-par 609 (305-304). Delaware captured the team title with a 23-over-par 599 (298-301), followed by Central Michigan (+27) and host Michigan State (+32). Delaware's Rhianna Gooneratne captured the Mary Fossum individual title with an even 144 (72-72).
The Scarlet Knights led in par-4 scoring with a 4.23 average while sinking a tournament-best 21 birdies across their two rounds. James tied for third in the field with six birdies. Amano, Lu, and Truong all tied for fifth with five birdies apiece.
"We got off to a slow start and struggled with our putting, but buckled down and closed with a few birdies down the stretch," said head coach Kari Williams. "We have a short turn around before we tee it up at Princeton this weekend, but I'm confident in our experience at Springdale."
ROUND 2 - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21
Weather: Partly Cloudy, temps in the mid-50s, 10-20 mph winds
Lu was the biggest mover for Rutgers on Monday, jumping 25 spots on the leaderboard thanks to her 2-over-par 74. Lu produced a team-best four birdies in the second round, including back-to-back birdies on holes 5 and 6 to help her tie for 17th.
Amano also enjoyed an impressive second round with her 2-over-par 74. She registered birdies on holes 4, 17, and 18 and contributed 10 pars during Monday's action.
Truong registered a 5-over-par 77 and added three birdies. James finished with two birdies and eight pars to close her tournament tied for eighth. Competing in just her second varsity tournament since missing all of last season due to injury, senior Lorena Rossettin tied for 38th.
ROUND 1 - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20

With rain beginning Saturday and continuing most of the day, play was suspended midway through the opening round. Action resumed at 3 p.m., but the delay allowed only one full round to be completed.
Despite the conditions, James was the only player in the field to reach the clubhouse under par, rolling in four birdies and 12 pars on Sunday. James closed her round with a birdie on the final hole to secure her under-par performance, giving her a one-stroke lead over Gonneratne and Addison Kartusch (Bowling Green).
Truong closed the first round inside the top 20 with a 5-over-par 77, with birdies on holes 4 and 14 helping her sit tied for 18th. Amano tied for 27th, while Rossettin tied for 34th. Lu rounded out the team scorecard tied for 42nd and tied for second in par-3 scoring (3.00).
