SEATTLE ā No. 21/22 Rutgers men's soccer fell at RV Washington by a score of 4-1 on Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Scarlet Knights (4-4-1, 2-1-0) turned a 2-0 deficit against the Huskies (6-3-1, 3-1-0) into a one-goal game in the second half, but UW used a pair of late insurance goals to secure the victory.
Washington came out of the gates strong, scoring a pair in the first half. A volley in the 25th minute broke the deadlock and made it 1-0 in favor of the home side. Just five minutes later, a penalty kick doubled the lead to 2-0.
Facing a two-goal deficit at halftime, RU began to apply more pressure and create the bulk of the opportunities in the second half.
The persistence from the Scarlet Knights was finally rewarded in the 68th minute, when Zach Mastrodimos fired in a left-footed volley following a corner kick, making it 2-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining.
In the 78th minute, the Huskies extended their lead to 3-1 with a header before scoring again in the 88th minute to put the finishing touches on the win.
Rutgers returns to action next week when it returns home to face Northwestern at 7 p.m. on Friday at Yurcak Field.
