Rutgers Women's Tennis Adds Three Recruits

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Katherine Arlak (Leonia, NJ), Caitlin Baker (Altoona, PA) and Christine Tran (Centerville, VA) will continue their academic and athletic career as members of the Rutgers University women's tennis team, head coach Ben Bucca announced today.
Arlak was the 2005 Bergen Record Player of the Year for a Leonia High School team that won a state title and two sectional championships in her career. The Star-Ledger North Jersey Player of the Year, Arlak was a two-time county singles champion and is the 12th-ranked player in the ETA Girls 18s region. A member of the varsity team since her freshman season, she was a four-time All-County and four-time All-League choice. Academically, she is a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society.
Baker, who played for Altoona Area High School, compiled a 90-7 singles record and won four consecutive District 6 Class AAA singles titles. She captured a bronze medal in the PIAA Championships during her junior and season seasons, losing to the eventual state champion in the semifinals both times. A four-time All-State pick, he earned second team accolades in 2004 and 2005 and third team honors in 2002 and 2003. She led Altoona HS to a 63-4 regular season record over the past four years, including an unblemished 48-0 mark in conference play.
Tran attends Robinson Secondary School was a state doubles champion. She also had a 41-3 record in single and doubles last fall, earning all-District and All-Region honors. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in a varsity of community service endeavors.
'I'm very pleased that Katherine, Caitlin and Christine have decided to join us,' said Bucca. 'They are all outstanding players with significant tennis accomplishments. In addition, they are also serious-minded students who will be scholar-athletes.'
Rutgers finished 14-10 (8-4 BIG EAST) this past season and earned a bid to the BIG EAST Championships for the second time in the past three years.
