Women's Tennis Announces Recruiting Class

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers University head women's tennis coach Ben Bucca announced the signing of two highly talented recruits for the 2008-09 season. Jennifer Holzberg ranks No. 88 and Leonora Slatnick ranks No. 135 in the 2007 recruiting class, according to tennisrecruiting.net.
"With these recruits this will continue the strong tradition of Rutgers women's tennis where our student-athletes excel not only on the court, but also in the classroom," said Bucca.
Holzberg, a two-time Most Valuable Player and captain of the Joel Barlow High School tennis team in Redding, Conn., was a 2007 Connecticut State finalist. In addition, the high school standout was ranked No. 3 in the USTA New England Girls 18's in singles and No. 2 in doubles. She was also a member of the Junior Fed Cup Team, Intersectional Team, and USTA Zonal Team. Scholastically, Holzberg was a member of the National Honor Society, president of her senior class, and ranked in the top-10 percent of her class.
Slatnick, ranked as the tenth best female high school player in the state of Texas, advanced to the Texas State quarterfinal in 2006 and was a memeber of the Westlake High School team that won the Texas State Championship in 2007. She also took part in the Texas Summer Grand Slam in 2006 and was a finalist in the Girls 16 division. Scholastically, Slatnick is in the top-five percent of her class, a member of the National Honor Society and received the AP Scholar Honor Award.
"Both girls are well rounded individuals, who play at the highest national level in tennis and are accomplished with their academics," said Bucca. "Very few can perform both athletically and academically at such a high level. They're joining the Rutgers women's tennis family will provide a bright future for our program."
