PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Three Rutgers women's lacrosse players were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Regional teams, it was announced on Thursday. Sophomore attacker Brooke Cantwell (Moorestown, N.J.) was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, while junior goalie Sandra Abel (Monrovia, Md.) and sophomore defender Jessica Davis (Moorestown, N.J.) were each named to the Second Team. It marks the first time that three RU players were named to the IWLCA All-Regional teams in one season since three earned the honor in 2002.
Cantwell led the team with a career-high 49 points on career-highs in both goals (36) and assists (13), and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. She was also named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team after posting two goals and a team-high three draw controls in RU's loss to Syracuse in the first round of the conference tournament.
Abel, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, posted a career-high 163 saves, including 15 in the team's 11-5 loss to No. 7 Georgetown on March 22. She recorded 10 or more saves in 10 games in 2008.
Davis, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection as well, was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team after finishing with 28 ground balls, 18 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers. She was a key figure on a defense that held seven opponents to single-digit scoring.
All three players are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-
American teams, which will be announced on May 29.
