
Rutgers Tennis Standout Amy Zhang Named BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 16, 2010) – Rutgers standout Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) earned the 2009-10 BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Excellence Award for women’s tennis. The award recognizes academic and athletic achievement, as well as community service and is given to 24 student-athletes within the conference.
The rising senior posted a 16-5 record at No. 1 singles and a 15-5 mark at No. 1 doubles. Paired with sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.), Zhang placed in the ITA rankings throughout the spring, ending 2010 ranked No. 89. Zhang earned her second-consecutive All-BIG EAST honor this season.
In the classroom, Zhang is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and has earned a spot on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll twice. The Plano, Texas native has also made the Dean’s List five times.
The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible. The winners are chosen by the BIG EAST Faculty Athletics Representative Council.
