Boca Raton, Fla. (March 13, 2011) - The Rutgers softball team (10-9) was edged by Michigan State, 4-2, Sunday at the Parents' Weekend tournament on the campus of FAU. The Scarlet Knights were led by senior Jen Meinheit (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) who went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Scarlet Knights got on the board in the bottom of the first as Meinheit singled to left field and stole second. Loren Williams (Los Angeles, Calif.) ripped a double down the left field line to put RU up, 1-0.

Rutgers added to its score in the fourth as Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) walked and stole second. After a groundout advanced the runner, senior Mickenzie Alden (Spokane, Wash) pushed a single up the middle to go up, 2-0.

Michigan State (12-10) answered with one run in the fifth and took the lead in the seventh. The Spartans used four hits and one RU error to score three runs in their last at bat.

The Scarlet Knights continue play in Clearwater, Fla. Tuesday, taking on Long Island University at 11 a.m.
