
Michael Lang Earns All-BIG EAST Baseball Honors

CLEARWATER, Fla. (May 24, 2011) – Rutgers senior right fielder Michael Lang (Dumont, N.J.) was selected to the All-BIG EAST Baseball Second Team, the league announced at its awards ceremony at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. Tuesday evening.
The senior led the Scarlet Knights and ranked eighth in the league with a .344 overall batting average. He collected 66 hits with 10 doubles, six triples and a pair of home runs on the year. Lang scored 39 runs and drove in 13 from the leadoff spot. His six triples led the BIG EAST, while his .445 on-base percentages was 10th-best in the conference. In league games, Lang posted an on-base percentage of .457, good for seventh-best in the conference. Lang collected multiple hits in 19 games with three four-hit contests on the year.
The strong-armed right fielder was one of the best at his position in the league, recording six outfield assist from his corner outfielder spot.
“We are very happy for Michael, said Rutgers head baseball coach Fred Hill. “He had a great career here and we are very proud of all his accomplishments. We are certainly going to miss him next season.”
Lang completed his standout career “On the Banks” as one the best hitters in school history. He finished his career tied for fourth in school history with Jeff Grose (2003-06) with 229 career hits. His also ranked in the top-10 in the RU record book in career triples (t-third, 13), career total bases (fifth, 372), career runs (sixth, 176), career at-bats (sixth, 678), career doubles (t-seventh 48) and career home runs (t-ninth, 23). The Scarlet Knight owned a .338 career batting average in his four years at Rutgers.
RU completed the season 20-30 overall with an 11-16 mark in BIG EAST play.
