Tennis Dominates Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2015) - The Rutgers women's tennis team defeated Army, 6-1, on the road Saturday afternoon.
Rutgers improves to an overall record of 2-1, while Army falls to a mark of 3-5.
"The team fought very hard today," said assistant coach Hilary Ritchie. "When matches were close, our ladies played solid, consistent tennis to edge out their opponents. The spirit within the team is very positive. We are excited to battle our in-state rival, Princeton, on Tuesday."
Rutgers started off the contest with three straight victories in doubles action to secure the team point. Juniors Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas) defeated Army's duo Carolyn Pitman and Eva Sung by a perfect score of 8-0. Senior Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) and freshman Chloe Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.) topped their opponents, 8-5, while junior Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) and freshman Lee Levy (Haifa, Israel) edged the Black Knight pair, 8-6.
In singles action, the Scarlet Knights recorded five straight victories to seal the win. Chloe Lee earned her first singles victory in dramatic fashion defeating Gabby Spindler of Army by a score of 7-6 (6), 6-2. Zein also recorded a hard earned win, topping her opponent, Nan Porter, by a final result of 7-5, 7-6 (2).
Balsamo, Kayati and Li registered the remaining three victories in singles play.
The Scarlet Knights conclude a three-game road stand with a trip to in-state rival Princeton on Tuesday, February, 17. The match is set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
