PRINCETON, N.J. (Feb. 18, 2015) - The Rutgers women's tennis team fell to No. 60 Princeton, 7-0, on the road Tuesday night. Rutgers moves to an overall record of 2-2, while Princeton moves to a mark of 2-5.
"We played well, but the credit goes to Princeton," said head coach Ben Bucca. "They are talented and deserve their national ranking. The match was closer than the score indicated so we are still a very motivated team that is eagerly looking forward to our next match against NJIT."
The Scarlet Knights dropped the doubles point to open up the contest. It marked only the second loss of the season for the duo of juniors Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas), falling to their Tiger opponents by the small margin of 6-4.
In singles action, Zein suffered her first loss of the year, snapping a three-match win streak. The junior put up a strong fight, dropping the matchup by a score of 7-5, 3-6 (10-5) to Caroline Joyce.
Sophomore Farris Cunningham (Houston, Texas) made her first appearance of the season at the No. 6 singles spot in tonight's contest.
Rutgers returns home after a three-game road stand, hosting NJIT on Friday, Feb. 20 at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The match is set for a 12:30 p.m. start.
