Tennis Drops Match Against Temple

MANASQUAN, N.J. - The Rutgers women's tennis team fell to Temple, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Atlantic Club.

The Scarlet Knights move to an overall record of 1-1, while Temple improves to 5-2.

Temple opened the contest with a sweep of the doubles matches. The duo of Gina Li (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Mariam Zein (Sugarland, Texas) and the pair of Lindsey Kayati (Monroeville, N.J.) and Lee Levy (Haifa, Israel) fell to their TU opponents by identical 6-3 scores. Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) and Chloe Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.) put up a strong fight against Anais Nussaume and Monet Willis of Temple, but were topped by a score of 7-6 (5).

In singles action, Kayti and Zein captured the two victories for RU. Kayati defeated Dina Karina at No. 2 spot by a result of 6-1, 6-3, while Zein defeated Monet Willis in dramatic fashion at No. 5 spot by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4).

The match came down to a battle at No. 4 singles as Balsamo edged Anais Nussaume in the opening set, but ultimately fell to her Owl opponent 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Next up, Rutgers continues its three-game road stand with a trip to West Point, N.Y. to face Army on Saturday, Feb. 14. The match is set to begin at noon.
