March 15, 2015 Box Score
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior Joe D'Annunzio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) hit a two-run home run to tie the score in the fourth inning, but it was not enough as Rutgers baseball fell to Indiana State, 14-4, Sunday at Bob Warn Field. It was the first meeting between the schools on the baseball diamond.
Sophomore Tom Marcinczyk (Middlesex, N.J.) reached base three times in four plate appearances with a double, a single and a walk to lead the offense, while junior R.J. Devish (Beachwood, N.J.) had an RBI single to go with a walk. Seven of the nine starters collected a hit for the Scarlet Knights.
The Sycamores (7-7) struck first in their initial at bat on a two-out, three-run homer to center by Andy Young. RU (2-12) chipped back with one in the third when Devish connected for a two-out single to drive home junior John Jennings (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), who had previously singled and stole second.
Indiana State did add one in its half of the third, but Rutgers rallied to tie the score quickly in the fourth. Sophomore Christian Campbell (Sayreville, N.J.) laced a single up the middle to start the rally and crossed on a triple to deep left-center by classmate Mike Carter (Bloomfield, N.J.). D'Annunzio followed that up with a lined shot over the wall in left, his second homer of the season.
However, the hosts batted around in the fourth and scored five times to reclaim the lead. Young hit a three-run double in the frame to reach six RBIs for the game. ISU added five insurance scores from there.
Ethan Larrison (1-0) earned the win for Indiana State with no runs allowed over five innings from the bullpen. Sophomore Kyle Driscoll (Toms River, N.J.) (0-3) struck out three in a defeat, while sophomore Gaby Rosa (Perth Amboy, N.J.) saw action in relief for his second appearance of the season on the mound. Sophomore Kevin Baxter (Waterford, N.J.) also entered from the bullpen.
The Scarlet Knights will wrap up their stay in Terre Haute, Ind., with a Monday noon game against Canisius.
